The truth is that it has been a while since I uploaded an article because I didn't have enough inspiration to write one. Yesterday, I received an e-mail saying that I have not been shortlisted for the next stage of a scholarship in Oxford's Summer School and this actually made me start searching about alternative choices for my summer plans ( #staytuned ). Apparently, these ''alternative choices'' inspired me to write this article, because I must convince my friends and consequently convince their parents to follow me on my adventures. Let's be realistic guys; EVERYTHING depends on your parents' admission when you are 16!!! What you have to do, in order to make a dream come true is to find the TOP 10 arguments to convince your parents for this trip. I'm sure that everyone would like to know which are they...
1. I WANT TO LEARN THINGS THAT ARE NOT WRITTEN IN ANY BOOK
1. I WANT TO LEARN THINGS THAT ARE NOT WRITTEN IN ANY BOOK
It's true! Trips are not just for fun; they're a ''mobile school'' with students from all over the world. The thing I learnt best during the 3 travels I went by myself was not to be afraid. I know that there are 'Psychology' books that are made for the exact same reason (help people not to be afraid), but certainly they won't have the same result as travels. Having faced your fears, you will learn how to be confident... You won't follow anymore the easy path; having your parents close showing you the right gate or the restaurant that you were looking for. Nope! These things will be YOUR decisions! Oh, I forgot to tell you that you will learn to be a determined person. Concerning the educational content of a trip, I have to tell you that travels make history come alive. I must admit that I don't like the history lesson in school, but when all these pictures from a book come alive in front of me, I can't do something else but LEARN. Don't be terrified from such situations... They are beautiful adventures that you will have the chance to live. Of course, if you don't want to learn, you'd better stay home. |
2. ORGANISE YOUR TRIP WITH YOUR PARENTS
It can be really amusing for your family to ''travel'' with you while helping you make your schedule. Of course, your parents will be informed about your location and activity 24/7, something that makes the whole situation safe.
3. KEEP IN MIND THAT WHEN YOU RETURN BACK HOME, THEY WANT STUFF TO SEE
Your parents don't ask for souvenirs; my parents mention every time ''don't buy something for us, we want you to return full of experiences''. I full of experiences, not my luggage full of souvenirs! Your parents are waiting to hear about how amazing was this trip, something that will convince them to trust you once again.

4. PROVE TO YOUR PARENTS THAT YOU ARE A RESPONSIBLE PERSON
Certainly, this skill can't be built in a month, but why don't you try to make it as a way of living? I don't mean to do all your homework or not de a naughty child (you should do these by the way), but the only thing that is absolutely necessary is maturity
5. DID YOU MENTION THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF TEENAGERS DOING THIS?
Why shouldn't I go as well? What is different with me comparing to all these people travelling?
6. THINK REALISTICALLY
Don't ask for impossible things (you know what I mean). Be a ''parent'' for a while and think if you would actually let yourself travel alone in this case. This is what will leave your parents speechless
and they will feel that you must go on that trip because...look at you! You are so open-minded, why not?
7. PROMISE THAT YOU WILL KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THEM WHILE YOU ARE ABROAD
This is the thing that can reassure your safety and protection when you are in a foreign environment. I can't hide you that I often forget to do it when I'm having SO much fun out there (watch out not to forget it)!
8. I WILL LEARN HOW TO ADMINISTRATE MONEY WHILE I'M YOUNG
Either the money that you will need during the trip or the money that you must have collected before it, are issues that you must face by yourself. Having collected a certain amount of money in a year, for example, can be your target, your New Year's Eve resolution or whatever! If you finally gather the exact sum that you were expected you will be applauded by your parents as well. That's why your parents will have a proof in the end that;
1. You really want this trip/dream to come true
2. You are capable of administrating money by yourself
Don't forget that these are characteristics that every person must have by a young age and travel offers you the opportunity to do so.

9. I WLL BE AN INTRESTING PERSON
There is nothing more intresting than talking with people who HAVE things, experiences to share...Oh yes! You won't be any more a blank canvas; travels will be your colours that will paint your whole life and the stories that will make you feel happy with what you have. Travels createbeautiful stories worth sharing with all of your friends and maybe transmit the travel bug andinspire someone for his next trip.
10. I WILL BE FLUENT IN ONE MORE LANGUAGE
You will not learn the grammar rules or how to write an essay, BUT you will benefit from other things like; signs in a foreign language, listening to a specific word every day and struggle to communicate with a stranger. If you want to know, that's what actually makes you flunet!
So, what do you have to do now? Start working with my (and your) arguments and go support your points in front of your parents and finally convince them to do what you always wanted!
