Every year the same old thing; Summer is over, no more sea, no more 3 p.m. sleep (maybe from now on it will be for study, anyway!) and my cousins return back to Athens...So this year I decided to go with them for just 5 days in Greece's capital. Athens.
As long as we were going by car (6 hours without stops) we put 2 or maybe 3 stops (approximately a 10 hour journey), in order not to get bored in the car.

1. VERGINA; This is an archological site, 1 and half hour away from Thessaloniki. We visited the archeological museum, which had a special room with Philipo's tomb. Philipos is the father of Great Alexander, who accomplished in 330 B.C. to conquer the Middle East, Persia and even a part of India. We don't know where his tomb is, but one thing that impressed me is that next to Philipo's tomb there was another tomb, which probably belongs to a teenager prince (aged 15-16 years old) and he is the son of the Great Alexander. |
3. LAMIA; As I previously said in order not to get bored take another stop for ice-cream!
Next day the program had a walk through Monastiraki area and Ermou street. I have fallen in love with Athens, just from the fact that it has become really multicultural. What I'm trying to say is that you are strolling around and every minute you face 10-20 different nationalities, many times you hear so many different languages except for greek!! Apart from the walks in tourist friendly streets of Athens, some stores really impressed me. First of all, a huge H&M in Ermou, which is really luxury inside
If you are travel addicted (like me!) just go on the 3rd floor of Public (a store with books, electronics and dvd/cd) , where there is a huge variety of travel books and travel literature. Okey, I stayed there for an hour, skiming through books and dreaming...my future trips!
After that we returned home, spending time with my family, playing playing cards and watching movies.
Next day we visited my uncle's cottage in Kineta, 40 minutes outsied Athens. Last time I was there was 10 years ago and basicly I didn't remember anything. I was expecting Kineta as a very calm place and not so crowded...Nope! It was completely different; there were everywhere beach bars and the sand was big stones. I liked this difference between north Greece and the southest and one thing that I really enjoyed was that while you were swimming you could see a big rock (with a crocodile shape) in front of you. On our way back to Athens we had a little stop in Elefsina where you must taste the ice cream, from ''Glikomania''

Next morning wasn't something special, we just had a strugle to find trainers for my cousin. Basically the luch in Aristos restuarant WAS something special! You must try the ''Kaserli Kebab'', which a kebab full of cheese. |
In the night we were strolling around Athens' center, starting from Acropolis Museum, walking through Plaka and Thsisio and returing back to Acropolis Museum. If you take a look of the museum by night, you can notice something; Only the original marbles and statues are lit, any other things that are copies of the original are in the dark!
As long as I had one more day in Athens, I wanted to visit places that I fell in love with. We started our route from Omonoia Square and we would end up at Aiolou street. Ι remembered that neighborhood from my last time in Athens and I knew that I loved it. There are m many little shops that are specialized for something particular, like for example a shop with ingredients for cakes. Afterewars we were looking for a famous gelateria in Psiri area, where you must go just for the ice cream (Pagotomania). We continued our walk to Monastiraki and of course I re-visited Public...what can I do? I'm travel addicted!
My last day in Athens. I went at the bus station in order to go at the airport. In the bus you feel like you are with people who share the same interests as you. Flights attendants from multiple airlines, 1 german couple (travel bloggers) who were recording a video of their last day in Greece and soo many others taht you are trying to guess why are they going to the airport. Is it a business trip? Do they return to their home country or starting a new big trip?
I really like this kind of thoughts and the fact that everyday we have the chance to meet soo many people and love them from what they are. Because the whole world is our home, we live on the same planet. Earth.
